Donkey
and Snake
By Tatiana
Pahlen
"Are you awake?" I heard a hiss
an eager hand pulled off my blanket.
"Come on, get up, let's have a snack
I saved a brownie, don't you like it?
Hush, I also brushed my teeth.
Come on, let's play, I'll be a snake
and you a frightened little donkey!"
"What time is it?" I rubbed my eyes.
"It's half past twelve, don't waste a minute;
you fall asleep the donkey dies,
the snake will get you, and I mean it!
Oh please get up; I'll bring my dice
to teach you tricks and do you favors,
I'll fix your math, say no more lies,
I swear to be forever lenient!
Here's a folder with my stamps,
Old coins, cars, a trusty bunny.
Come on, get up, unbolt your eyes,
I'll fill your piggybank with money.
Or, I'll count till three and the donkey dies!"
"Ok!" I rose from my cozy bed
"You won, I'm awake,
but first we must adjust your game:
Get ready, bro! I'll be the snake
and I will strike this obtuse Donkey!"
