The Truthful Lie
By Tatiana Pahlen

The grand poet, Tyutchev, of Russian breed
Stunned the world by quoting his own line:
"The truth once spoken turns into a lie."
Does it apply to those who write and read?
I try my own injustice if it's high.

At first, it was a serpent that fed Eve
With the fruit that made her lewd and sick,
Amending her mate's heavenly fig leaf,
She baited Adam to bite this demon seed
Hence, they named their baby-boy – Deceit.

Next came along Deception and Pretense
Who quickly sired Cons, Caprice and Fraud.
Their brood produced Impostor and Defense
That multiplied in Gambits and Demands,
Those filled this earth with Swindles and with Ploys.

But things extremely coiled along the line
The clan of Gambits who fought with cunning Cons
Expelled Cheat Jr. who chose to face exile
For Vague – Cons' kin who waltzed him to the aisle.

These two gave birth to Honesty and Counts.
Soon after Trust and Truth knocked at their door
Together they conceived Finesse and Chic,
That granted life to Fervor, Candor, Lore,
Integrity, Authority and Bore.

Blunt married Candid,
Heartfelt fell for Meek . . .
Don't ask me more,
My memory is weak.
