Big Toe, Small Paw
By Tatiana Pahlen

I limp on the street, enduring pain,
dragging my leg like wood —
Forty-five pounds I lost in vain
dropping weights on the foot.
Now, wearing an open boot,
I tend to my broken toe;
A slow walker — a target to loot,
ridiculed by a foe.
Oddly, I found every dog
shows a loyal side:
All sympathetic
pacing along
wiggling their humble butts
With eyes display,
"I feel your pain,
let me lick your wound."
Hence dogs are men's best friends,
Knowing your mind and mood!
