Wireless, Anyone?
By Tatiana Pahlen

Are the cellular phones ruling the world?
They ring everywhere!
You can't get through a service in the temple
or church without them interfering.
Imagine, a vocalist gets a call
and sings back to a headset on stage;
Opera, anyone?
A heart surgeon in the act is buzzing a midwife,
his special friend who performs labor in the next room
as she prompts: "Push! Push!"
He yells: "Are you nuts! Can't push her heart out!"

Clasping a T-Mobile with fingers white from chalk,
a pupil chats with a cousin
while the teacher dials his lawyer before splitting with his wife.
Wireless, anyone?
Can we live without this specter?
If we can, shall we leave it at home?
There is no importance in its eternal amity.
It's healthier to converse face to face once,
than seven times through the receiver.
No?
